Während alle anderen zurzeit Urlaub in Thailand oder Island machen, haben wir es uns letztes Wochenende im eigenen Land gut gehen lassen. Freunde haben uns letztes Weihnachten (Casey freut sich schon aufs Verpacken der Geschenke fürs nächste...) dieses Wochenende in Linz geschenkt und die Auszeit hat uns ganz gut getan, auch wenn Casey sich verkühlt hat. Wenn man an Flüsse fährt, besser eine Mütze einpacken - man lernt halt nie aus.
While everyone is on vacation in Thailand or Iceland, we did ourselves something good in our own country. Last Christmas (Casey is excited about wrapping the presents for the next one...) our friends made us a gift with this weekend at Linz and the time-out was really good for us, even if Casey catched a cold. If you travel near rivers, better take a beanie with you - you live and learn.
Nach drei Stunden Fahrt und einem kurzen Zwischenstopp beim Hotel, wo uns nur gesagt wurde, dass wir noch zwei Stunden bis zum Check-in warten müssten, haben wir uns die Innenstadt von Linz angesehen. Linz ist recht modern, viele Gebäude mit Glasfronten und eher weniger klassische Altbaugebäude. Im Allgemeinen würden wir sagen: Klein aber oho. Die Kontraste faszinieren uns immer - ein paar stuckverzierte Gebäude hat die drittgrößte Stadt Österreichs immerhin zu bieten.

After a three-hour-drive and a short stop at the hotel, where they only told us, that we have to wait two more hours to check in, we explored the inner-city of Linz. Linz is quite modern, many buildings with glass walls and quite less classic older buildings. In general we would say: small, but oh my. The contrasts are always fascinating for us - after all the third biggest city of Austria has to offer some buildings decorated with stucco.
Was nie fehlen darf, wenn man sich schon aufrafft und zwei Stunden zu Fuß unterwegs ist - Essen. Auf den ersten Blick hält Linz anscheinend sehr viel von Nordsee, gefühlt alle fünfzig Meter findet man eine Filiale, aber das ist nicht alles: Im Atrium City Center gibt es einen richtig stylischen Eisladen - das Eis konnten wir leider nicht probieren, es war einfach zu kalt, aber die Optik allein: Empfehlenswert! Außerdem hat Eden ihren ersten Schoko Kebap gegessen und war richtig begeistert. Casey konnte durch den Bissen, den sie genommen hat, nicht überzeugt werden, aber der kann man es so nie recht machen...
One thing which doesn't have to be missed if one braces oneself up for being on the road by feet for at least two hours - food. At first sight Linz thinks highly of Nordsee (a fish-restaurant), perceived every 50 metres there is one branch, but that's not everything: At the Atrium City Centre there is a stylish ice cream shop - we couldn't try the ice cream , it was way too cold, but the appearance alone: recommendable! Besides Eden ate her first choco kebab and she was really enthusiastic about it. Casey wasn't really convinced by the one bite which she made, but she's hard to please...
Nachdem wir die Altstadt gesehen hatten, der Schoko Kebap verdaut und Caseys Ohren fast abgefroren waren, sind wir wieder zurück zum Hotel und haben eingecheckt. Das Arcotel Nike Hotel haben wir nicht selbst ausgesucht, und hätten wir wahrscheinlich auch nicht, weil wir nicht so auf roten Teppichboden stehen, aber es war sauber und zentral, direkt an der Donau und um die Ecke von Kunstmuseum. Und es gab einen Tageslichtspiegel und einen riesigen im Bad - wo es auch eine Badewanne gibt. Richtig cool. Aber das Frühstück hat es preislich ganz schön in sich (wer zahlt achtzehn Euro für ein Frühstücksbuffet, wir sind ja nicht geizig, aber das, was wir in der Früh runterkriegen, kostet nie im Leben zwanzig Euro pro Person..!) deshalb: auswärts frühstücken. Etwas blöd fanden wir auch die Parkplatzsituation, fünfzehn Euro pro Tag ist richtig teuer, dafür waren sie gleich beim Hotel. Bei einer Nacht sagen wir ja nichts, aber für einen längeren Aufenthalt ist das wirklich blöd.
After we saw the historic city, the choco kebab was digested and Casey's ears almost were almost frostbited, we went back to the hotel and checked in. We didn't choose the Arcotel Nike hotel by ourselves, and we wouldn't, because we don't like red carpeted floor, it was clean and central, directly at the Donau and around the corner there is the art museum. And there also was a daylight mirror and a big one in the bathroom - where we also had a bathtub. Really cool. But the breakfast was way too expensive (who pays 18 Euros for a breakfast buffet, we aren't thrifty but what we eat in the morning doesn't costs almost twenty Euros per person.!) because of that: breakfast outwards. The parking situation was a bit difficult becuase we had to pay 15 Euros per day, it's really expensive, but they were right in front of the hotel. We don't say anything if one is just staying for one night, but if one stays longer that can be really dense.
Nach dem Check-In sind wir wieder los - nur zwei Tage und so viel zu sehen - und sind zum Botanischen Garten gefahren. Die Außenanlage ist riesig, ideal für Spaziergänge, das stellen wir uns vor allem in den wärmeren Frühlingsmonaten (so ab Mai bis Oktober) richtig, richtig schön vor. Innen ist es natürlich kleiner, als wir es gewohnt sind - da sind wir in Graz aber auch verwöhnt - aber nichtsdestotrotz sehr süß aufgebaut, und eine kleine Oase mitten im kalten Stadtleben.
Das dazugehörige Café können wir leider nur bedingt empfehlen, der Tee ist nicht gut und im Allgemeinen wird alles viel zu teuer verkauft, aber das kennt man eigentlich ja von "Touristenorten". Aber wenigstens war der Kuchen, Eden hat einen Apfelstrudel probiert, richtig gut.
After the check in we went out again - only two days and so many things to see - and we drove to the Botanical Garden. The outdoor installation is really big, ideal for walks, we imagine that this would be really nice in the warm spring months (from May 'till October). The inside of the building was smaller than we are used to it - in Graz we are spoiled - but nevertheless really sweet built and a small aosis in the middle of the cold city life.
We can recommend the attached café only partly, the tea isn't that good and in general everything is way too expensive, but one knows this of "tourist places". But at least the cake was good, Eden tried an apple strudel.
Unsere Freunde wollten unbedingt die neu eröffnete Titanic-Ausstellung sehen. Und wir überhaupt nicht, deshalb haben wir die Zeit genutzt, um ein Outfit zu shooten - beim Lentos Kunstmuseum - und uns die Johannes Kepler Universität, den Science Park anzusehen. Und waren richtig begeistert. Fashionblogger in Linz zu sein, muss richtig, richtig Spaß machen, hier gibt es wahnsinnig coole Locations, allein diese Uni - wir waren richtig begeistert.
Our friends wanted to see the newly opened Titanic exhibition so bad. And we didn't want to do that, because of that we took the time for taking photos of an outfit - at the Lentos Art Museum - and for taking a look at the Johannes Kepler University, the Science Park. And we were really thrilled. It has to be so much fun to be a fashion blogger in Linz, there are so many cool locations, let alone this university - we were so enthusiastic.
Zum Abendessen waren wir im La Fiesta mexikanisch essen. Wir waren alle richtig begeistert, das Ambiente, die Musik und das Essen an sich, alles passt perfekt zusammen, sollten wir je wieder in Linz sein, dort wollen wir wieder mal hin. Sehr weiterzuempfehlen!
In the evening we were at La Fiesta eating mexican. We were so thrilled, the ambience, the music and the food, everything matched so perfectly, and if we ever come to Linz again we'll go there again. It's really adviseable!
Weiter oben haben wir ja schon erwähnt, dass wir frühstücken gehen wollten - leider hatte das Lokal, in das wir zuerst wollten (eine bekannte Konditorei/Bäckerei, wir können uns einfach keine Namen merken) geschlossen, also sind wir ins Café des Lentos Kunstmuseums gegangen - sehr lecker, und die Location ist einfach nur cool. Preislich gesehen ein wenig mehr als es im Durchschnitt kostet (ca. 12 Euro pro Person) aber das war es wert.
Above we mentioned that we wanted to have a breakfast in the city - but unfortunately the premise (a well known bakery/pastry shop, we can't remember names) we wanted to go to was closed, so we went to the Lentos Art Museum - really tasty and the location was so cool. Concering costs a little bit more than the average (approx. 12 Euro per person) but it was worth it.
Nach dem Frühstück sind wir dann direkt in den Zoo, wo es eine Ostereiersuche gab - total süß, vor allem für Familien, aber auch uns hat es Spaß gemacht. Sobald es einen Tiergarten gibt, müssen wir uns den einfach ansehen, deshalb kommt ihr jetzt nicht um ein paar wenige Tierbilder rum. Ihr könnt euch sicher sein, wir haben mehr gemacht, aber die besten rausgesucht. Und ja. Es waren viele von den Erdmännchen. Aber hey: Erdmännchen.!! Was noch besonders am Zoo Linz ist: Man kann viele der Tiere füttern, was noch mal ein Erlebnis daraus macht.
After the breakfast we directly went to the zoo, where we joined an easter egg quest - really sweet, especially for families but we had fun too. Everytime we notice that there is a zoo we have to go there, and because of this you can't get around of some animal photos. You can be sure, we made more than this, but we chose the best ones. And yes. It were many of the meerkats. But hey: meerkats.!! There's another special thing about the zoo at Linz: One can almost feed every animal, which makes it a real adventure.
Linz ist auf alle Fälle einen Wochenendbesuch wert, und es gäbe noch viel mehr moderne Architektur, die man fotografieren könnte, und bestimmt auch mehr tolle Restaurants. Aber bei Städtetrips, vor allem bei so kurzen, kann man nicht immer alles ansehen. Man muss abwägen, und wir denken, wir haben eine ganz gute Mischung hinbekommen.
Linz is really worth a weekend visit, and there is much more modern architecture which one could photograph, and certainly more great restaurants. But one can't see everything at a city trip, especially if it's a short one. One has to weigh and we think we made a great mixture.
