MEINE MEINUNG
In jeder Hinsicht.

The Face of Death
CONTENT
Her pain is his justice.
Smoky Barrett is called to a murder scene, it can’t be even more cruel. A whole family, executed and gutted, their blood saturates the walls of the idyllic house. His masterpiece. But not the blood of the whole family colours the walls red. Sarah Langstorm is still alive.
Because her pain is his justice. Will Smoky Barrett believe Sarah’s story?

MY OPINION
I would’ve like to give some standing ovations, as I snapped The Face of Death shut, and read the blurb for approx. the tenth time. But I sat in the car, so this was impossible to do. Cody McFadyen outdoes himself with #2 of the Smoky-Barrett-series. In every respect. His writing style is simply perfect, he keeps the necessary distance to the crime and at the same time he brings us right in the brain of the murderer, like nobody else could do this. There is hardly an author, who is able to express the facets of dread this vivid.

I always feel like …left alone in the dark in the middle of nowhere while reading one of McFadyen’s books. Until fifty pages before the end, he keeps me – and the agents as well! - in ignorance of the murderer, just to smack down the solution right in my face. It’s unbelievable. Especially, because he always maintains the suspense. The first four hundred pages, when basically nothing special happens.

Thumbs up and I bow with an absolute, 100-% recommendation to so much authorial, but also research talent.
