MEINE MEINUNG

CONTENT
Special Agent Smoky Barrett is the first in her field, the best of her department, the best agent the FBI got. The gift to shoot unerringly is as to the manner born. But the latest case on her desk even pushes a professional like Smoky to her borders. And to the border of humanity. Because this serial killer outclasses everything she had to deal with before. More cruel and more cunning than all those before him. And he doesn’t only play a brutal game with his victims…

MY OPINION
The New York Times wrote „If this book don’t scares you, you should seek medical advice.“ And a German paper evidenced: „The series about Smoky Barrett will have a big future“.

We are in future now, and yes, many Smoky-Barrett-Thriller were published after this (first) one. But honestly, I have to admit – I already read more scaring books. Especially the first third of “Shadowman” wasn’t that thrilling. The author explains everything and I as reader get a feeling for the whole situations, the protagonist and the characters, their jobs. Indeed at that time the story is great written, fluently to read, there are a few shocking moments but on the whole it’s never really thrilling – in my view.

After this first section the book becomes a real thriller. One event hunts the next, and one surprise overtakes the next. McFadyen develops an emotional ride on the rollercoaster, which doesn’t leave time to breath. Simply perfect! I couldn’t put it down. I love the backgrounds, the personal aspects in respect of the protagonist – without being too focussed on the police work. And death is ubiquitous. Always.

Who loves hard and fast thriller with an interesting background should definitely read this book. Although I bet, that those among you, already have read the series. I personally hope, that the next cases are as great as this one.
In any case I’m very curious, part 2 is already in the shelf and its dread is waiting for me…

If you know the Smoky Barrett and her cases – what do think about her first?
