LISTEN | Heatist

Titel: Where Did I Go Wrong
Künstler: Heartist

Album: Nothing You Didn’t Deserve
Veröffentlicht: 2012
Lieblingszeile: “But if tomorrow brings a better way then why is there today?”

Heartist is a very young Post-Hardcore Band, which became more popular lately. The five boys have brought a breath of fresh air in the scene with their unobtrusive doublings from the Electro-Genre in their songs. They all look weird but the frontman Bryce Beckley stands out with his mullet. I discovered the song accidentally, as I did it so often, and wondered what was coming now.
And then.. The intro, the voice, which reminds me of the songs by Breaking Benjamin, and then the lyrics. I generally like to take a look at the lyrics, because in my opinion they are simply important, because you can tear out so much, even if the song itself is not the best. But in this case the lyrics and the melody were quite good. This is always a good beginning. And so I’ve decided to listen until the end and I was surprised.

It’s about love. To sum it up briefly: he loves her, she loves him not. She took advantage of him and actually didn’t want a relationship. What the two had will never be the same and wasn’t even real. She just exploited him.
And I believe him. Exactly these feelings, the pain and that he wonders what he did wrong, because many people think, that they are to blame for mistakes that happen, before it comes to resignation, to the moment, when one realizes that it just had made no sense. No one had the blame, it just shouldn’t be at that moment. Especially the last chorus shows that particularly. It’s a quiet and slow one.. it’s over.

I was surprised that this band is that good. I hope that they will make more songs like this one and they stay like this and not adapt too much to this typical Post-Hardcore-Scene.
