System Of A Down ist bestimmt jedem ein Begriff, aber es soll immer Ausnahmen geben. Für jene hier eine kurze Erklärung: System Of A Down (SOAD) ist eine seit 1995 bestehende Metal-Band, die zwar in Kalifornien gegründet wurde, aber nur armenische Mitglieder hat. Dies merkt man auch immer wieder an den Liedern, die in ihrem Stil dadurch beeinflusst werden.
Ich mag SOAD ziemlich gerne, schon immer eigentlich. Anfangs war ich etwas skeptisch, da die Lieder manchmal auf den ersten Blick etwas seltsam und sinnlos erscheinen, aber mit der Zeit habe ich gemerkt, dass hinter ihnen eigentlich immer eine bestimmte Botschaft steckt.
Im Lied Hypnotize, das ich besonders gerne mag, geht es um das Tian'anmen-Massaker, welches 1989 in Peking stattgefunden hat. Durch eine Studentenbewegung wurde der Tian'anmen Platz besetzt und das Militär hat dies gewaltsam unterbunden. Alles fing damit an, dass man Hoffnung hatte, dass auch in Peking bald die Demokratie einkehren würde, jedoch musste man schnell feststellen, dass auch durch die Änderungen der Regierungsparteien neue Schwierigkeiten auf die Bevölkerung zukommen. Versprochen wurden Besserungen und Demokratie, aber im Endeffekt hatten die Menschen keine Arbeit mehr, da die Arbeitsplatzgarantie weggefallen ist, die Lebensmittelpreise sind gestiegen, aber auch Vetternwirtschaft und Korruption waren Alltag.
Im Lied Hypnotize geht es um einen bestimmten Vorfall, der lange Zeit später noch in den Medien kursierte. Ein Junge wollte, dass seine Freundin nicht bei diesen Protesten mitmacht. Sie wollte aber und wollte ihm klar machen, dass es hierbei um mehr geht, als Macht und Geld, nämlich um Freiheit und Demokratie. Er wartete in seinem Auto auf sie. Sie kam nie mehr wieder.
Tag für Tag merkt man überall, wie materialistisch Menschen eigentlich sind. Ich bin keine Ausnahme, ich gehe gerne shoppen, habe gerne den neuesten Technikscheiß, aber warum tun wir das eigentlich? Ist es wirklich wichtig? Wofür brauchen wir das alles? Wann hat das alles angefangen und warum zur Hölle hören wir nicht einfach damit auf und leben alle in Frieden miteinander?
Weil es eine Wunschvorstellung ist. Die Menschheit kann sich nicht von einen auf den anderen Tag ändern. Niemand will auf seinen sogenannten "Luxus" oder "Standard" verzichten. Ich ebenfalls nicht. Aber ich denke, man sollte sich hin und wieder bewusst machen, dass viele andere Menschen nicht so viel Glück hatten wie wir, die hier gerade sitzen und Blog-Posts lesen und uns Sorgen über unsere Frisur im Regen machen.
Und manchmal schadet es auch nicht, sich zu fragen, ob man das Teil, dass man sowieso schon zehn mal zuhause hat wirklich auch noch in dieser Farbe braucht.

For these ones, here comes a short explanation: System Of A Down (SOAD) is a metal band existing since 1995 which was found in California but has only Armenian members. One notices this in their songs again and again, which are influenced by it.
I like SOAD since always, actually. At first, I was a little sceptical, because their songs seem a little bit strange and senseless at first sight but with the time I have noticed that there is always a certain message behind them.
The song Hypnotize, which I like particularly, is about the Tian'anmen massacre which has taken place in Beijing in 1989. Tian'anmen Square was occupied by a student movement and armed forces stopped them forcibly. Everything began because they hade hope that democracy would come to Beijing soon, but soon they noticed that they had to face new difficulties even if there are changes in the ruling parties. Recoveries and democracy were promised but in the end the people had no jobs anymore since the job guarantee has been discontinued and nepotism and corruption were also daily things they had to deal with.
The song Hypnotize is about a certain incident which still circulated in the media long time later. A boy didn't want his girlfriend to join these protests. She wanted to show him, that it's not about power and money, but liberty and democracy. He waited for her in his car. She never came back again.
Day by day one notices how materialistic people are. I am not an exception, I really like going shopping, I like to have the latest technology but why do we do this? Is it important? For what do we need these things? When has this all begun and why the hell don't we stop and live together in peace?
Because it is a wishful thinking. Mankind can't change himself from one day to another. Nobody wants to abstain from his so-called "luxury" or "standard". Me neither. But one should remind himself now and then that many other people weren't so lucky as we, who are sitting here and read blog-posts and worry about our hairstyle in the rain.

And sometimes it doesn't harm either to wonder whether one needs this part in this new color which he has at home anyways already ten times.
