Listen to: Ana's Song

Titel: Ana’s Song
Künstler: Silverchair
Album: Neon Ballroom
Veröffentlicht: 1999
Lieblingszeile: "And you’re my obsession, I love you to the bones.”

Silverchair is one of these bands which one can’t get out of one's head if one listened to them once. The singer Daniel Johns has a really good voice and the songs, he writes are simply amazing, because they’re so real. One can put himself in the place of Johns, but I think, that’s because the songs relate from his own experiences.

Primarily Ana’s Song is one of the songs which got me from the first moment hearing it. It deals with Anorexia and how it feels to suffer from it. How bad it is when you can’t get rid of it but it also makes you feel happy if the scale is showing you that you have lost weight.
Daniel Johns said in an interview that this illness has developed slowly – at the beginning he hasn’t even noticed it. However, it got worse and worse and he lost weight – but way too much. If one looks at pictures of him at the time of the disease and compares them with today, this is really frightening. But nevertheless he never thought that he is pretty or thin enough.

I think, it’s intense how obsessed people can get of the feeling to be too fat and how fast one can suffer from an eating disorder. I think it’s bad that everything gives us the feeling that to be skinny is the only option. Because it isn’t like that. Everybody should be like he feels confident with his body. I know, overweight isn’t healthy but underweight neither. It is important to find a good middle but that isn’t so easy.
When I see these Pro-Ana-Blogs I feel like I’m in the wrong movie. Or such sentences like that nothing feels better than the feeling of being skinny. Anyways this isn’t meant to be a gettingonournerves but it has to be said so that you have a little insight of what I’m thinking if I listen to some certain songs. In this case, that I think that eating disorders are shit and that they wouldn’t be necessary if these clichés that only skinny people are beautiful wouldn’t be there. Everybody is beautiful in his or her own way and this should everybody realize and visualize. It’s simply so regardless of how one has bigger hips, belly or butt than others.
