LISTEN | Disturbed

Schon 15 Jahre ist es her, dass dieses Album herausgekommen ist. Da war ich gerade einmal fünf.

Ich kann mich noch erinnern, da war ich in der ersten Klasse Gymnasium und hatte einen Discman. Kennt man sowas überhaupt noch? Das ist eines dieser Dinge gewesen, die relativ schnell wieder vom Markt waren, weil sich die Technik damals noch rasant entwickelt hat. Also ein Discman ist so etwas wie ein Walkman nur mit CDs - ein ziemlich klobiges und nicht gerade hübsches Teil.

Jedenfalls waren wir öfter bei meinem Onkel und er hat mir immer erlaubt seine CDs zu hören mit meinem ach so coolen Discman. Also saß ich da und suchte mir eine CD aus. Disturbed - der Name gefiel mir also legte ich die CD ein. Die Musik begann und irgendwie fand ich es wirklich seltsam, aber nach und nach empfand ich die Lieder als total angenehm. Die CD musste ich dortlassen und irgendwie war sie beim nächsten Mal nicht mehr dort, wo sie zuletzt eingeordnet war, also habe ich Disturbed vergessen. Damals konnte man nämlich noch nicht einfach auf Youtube das Lied mit einem Daumen nach hoch bewerten und es sich später noch einmal anhören.

Einige Jahre später kam ich wieder auf die Band - na wodurch wohl? - durch Youtube. Aber diesmal habe ich verstanden worum es in den Liedern wirklich geht. Jedes Einzelne befasst sich mit unglaublich ernsten Themen - wie Voices beispielsweise. Es geht um einen Mann der an einer psychischen Erkrankung leidet. Er hört Stimmen, die ihm sagen, was er tun soll. Und er soll schlimme Dinge tun.

Insgesamt ist das ganze Album The Sickness gelungen. Das Einzige was mich immer wieder an Disturbed ein kleines bisschen stört ist, dass sich alle Lieder nach einiger Zeit gleich anhören. Deshalb kann ich nicht das gesamte Album in einem durchhören.

15 years ago this album came out. I was just five! I can still remember when I was in first class of high school and had a discman. Does anyone sill know what something like that is? This has been one of these things which were relatively fast picked from the market because technology has developed at that time so rapidly. So a discman is like a walkman only with CDs - a quite bulky and not pretty part.

In any case, we were often at my uncles house and he always allowed me to listen to his CDs with my oh so cool discman. So I sat there and searched for the right CD. Disturbed - I liked this name so I insterted the CD. The music began and somehow I found it strange but bit by bit I felt like the songs are absolutely pleasant. I had to leave the CD there and the next time it wasn't on the same place like the first time and somehow I forgot about Disturbed. At that time one couldn't like a song on Youtube and listen to it later again.

Some years later I came across Disturbed one more time but on Youtube. This time I understood what's the song about. Every single song deals with incredibly serious topics - like Voices for example. It is about a man who suffers from a mentally illness. He hears voices inside his head which tell him what to do. And he should do bad things.

All together the whole album The Sickness is well-made. The only thing of Disturbed which upsets me is that the songs sound all the same after some time. Therefore, I can't listen to a whole album in one.
